1. Do Your Research

When it comes to getting started, the best place to begin is always with doing your research. So, you know you want to find your first location–but why? Make sure that you’re setting goals for what you want to achieve. Next, you need to carry our your market research. It’s important to ascertain as to whether this is going to be viable or not. If you launch and you don’t get the level of business you need, it could be a bad move.

2. Find the Equipment You Need

If you have discovered that this has a good chance of working, you can then get your plans underway. The first thing you need to do for this is get your equipment in place. Do you need shelving or racks to display your stock? You’ll also need virtual payment terminals, bags or packaging, and even things like notebooks, a computer, and any backroom furniture and equipment too.

3. Source Suitable Locations

You also need to make sure that you find the right location to launch in. Location is everything when it comes to having a physical business. If you’re looking at creating a retail store or hospitality space, like a restaurant, you need to make sure that you’re in a spot people can get to. If you want foot traffic, you also need to be in an area where people may be wandering or shopping.

4. Nail Your Marketing

Then you have your marketing. You need to let people know that you’re starting a physical location; otherwise, they can’t visit you or shop with you. For this, you need to start marketing as early as possible. You may even want to host a launch day and opening event. That way, it gives you the opportunity to get excited about things and start your first day with a bang!

5. Learn Along the Way

Ultimately, you can only ever plan it all out so much before you have to let go and let it all play out. You won’t always get things perfect right off the back, but that’s the nature of business and life sometimes. You’re likely to find that you’ll learn a lot along the way. And this is how you’ll progress. We always learn the most valuable lessons by doing. This is also how you’ll find your feet and start to figure out what works for you. So, don’t sweat the small stuff–especially if things go wrong in the very beginning. You’ll figure it all out as you go along.
