Description

Openhouse is one of the more unusual titles we stock, and one of my personal favorites to flip through. The whole magazine is built on a single idea: people around the world who open their homes to strangers for dinners, exhibitions, concerts and workshops, and what happens when they do.

So an issue might take you inside a Barcelona apartment where a couple hosts weekly supper clubs, then to a ceramicist in Japan who turned her living room into a gallery. You get the interviews, the recipes the hosts actually cook, and interiors photography that makes most design magazines look sterile. These are real lived in homes, not staged ones.

It’s an independent magazine from Spain, printed twice a year at around 144 pages, with articles in English alongside the host’s own language on the same spread. That bilingual layout sounds like a gimmick until you see it. It gives the whole thing a travel feel, like reading someone’s beautifully produced diary.

Because it’s biannual, think of this less as a rolling subscription and more as two substantial books a year. People who buy it tend to keep every copy.
