Description

There’s a particular look this magazine owns. Rooms with faded floral fabrics and good bones. Kitchens with an Aga and a dog asleep somewhere. Houses that feel collected over decades rather than decorated in a weekend. If that’s the England in your head, The English Home is the magazine that photographs it every month, and has done for over two decades.

Each issue tours real houses – manor houses, rectories, cottages, London flats done in the classic style – with proper write-ups on how the owners got there. Around the house tours you get practical decorating features, guides to British makers and antiques worth buying, seasonal entertaining ideas, and the occasional travel piece on an English town or region worth visiting.

Worth knowing: a huge share of its readers are American. The magazine is published in the UK by The Chelsea Magazine Company (the same people behind The English Garden), but it’s written in a way that assumes you might be recreating the look in Connecticut rather than the Cotswolds, and plenty of the sourcing guides include US stockists.

Twelve issues a year. Slow reading, in the best sense – this is a bath-and-cup-of-tea magazine, not a flick-through.
